Squanderers

Luke 15:13 “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.” It is easy for some to disassociate themselves from the prodigal story. And yet if we looked just a little below the surface we would find we all can relate to it on some level. We may not have wasted our wealth on crazy riotous living. But we’ve all squandered something.We squander time we could’ve spent with family. How many moments do we forget to treasure in our marriage? We squander our gifts and talents. How often has the church squandered the resources it could be, it should be, using to reach the lost, all in the name of “being good stewards.” God’s not going to ask us how much money we brought with us to heaven. He’s going to ask us how many people we brought with us. We are all prodigals on some level, habitual squanderers.The good news, however, is that there is always a party the Father is ready to throw to welcome his squandering prodigals back. A feast where we’re fed, filled, and restored. A party that seems like such a waste to some. And yet there is nothing God would rather spend his resources on. The older brother accused the Father of squandering his wealth on his younger, squandering, brother. But the Father was clear; His children were worth everything He owned. And you need to know today that you are worth everything too. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son” - John 3:16
