Who is your High Tower?

Psalm 9:9–10 Jehovah will be a high tower for the oppressed, A high tower in times of trouble; And those who know your name will put their trust in you; For you, Jehovah, have not forsaken those who seek you.What is your high tower? What do you run to when times get tough? For some of us it is money. For some of us it is power. For some it is their beauty, and others their brains. The problem with relying on our own resourcefulness when in trouble is that some problems are just too big. Only God can solve god-sized problems. However, how often do we rush to use inferior solutions for our superior problems?Adam and Eve ran to the fig tree to dress up. Cain killed Abel because his offering didn't measure up. Abraham ran to Hagar in order to hook up. David murdered Uriah to cover up. Jacob manipulated his father and brother so his inheritance would be shored up. The people of Babel decided to build up. In each case, because they didn't trust God, taking matters into their own hands, their problems compounded. How are you compounding the problem today?After the flood God promised his people he would never again destroy the earth with a flood, (Genesis 9:11–13). But instead of trusting Him they started building. Building a tower, (Genesis 11:1-9) that would stretch into the heavens to protect them, validate them, "make a name for them." But no matter how high they built the tower their greatest problem was still present, themselves.God has always wanted His children to trust Him. To have faith that He's got a solution for any problem you're facing! He wants to be the source of strength we run to when we find ourselves in hard situations. "Jehovah will be a high tower for the oppressed, A high tower in times of trouble; And those who know your name will put their trust in you; For you, Jehovah, have not forsaken those who seek you." You don't need to provide for yourself your own protection you are the "apple of His eye, he has hidden you in the shadow of his wing" (Psalm 17:8). You don't need to prove, or validate, yourself. God has given you all the validation you will ever need. "In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace," (Ephesians 1:7). You do not need to make a name for yourself. Jesus has purchased your new name for you, "Christian." So what is your high tower? If it is in anything other than God, it will never be big enough, tall enough, great enough. Make a decision today to restore God to your tower. "The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold." (Psalm 18:2)
