From Anticipation to Celebration

The triumphal entry was in anticipation of what Jesus could do. Heal the sick, feed the hungry, raise the dead, kick Rome’s butt. Often our walk with Christ begins in anticipation of what Jesus can do: bless the finances, salvage the marriage, heal the son or daughter, kick the cancer’s butt. The problem is sometimes Christ doesn’t do what you would have Him do. Instead of going to a throne, he goes to a cross. Instead getting crowned He goes and get’s Himself killed. Our expectations turn into resentments. Our “Hosannas” into “Crucify Him! We have no king but Caesar.”

But the good news is—when we see the palm branches being waved again, in the end, (or should I say beginning). We have finally learned what real faith is. Our anticipation of what Jesus can do has turned into a celebration what Jesus has already done, “Crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” Revelation 7:10.
